ago My question is: does the AI cheat or not Promiskuitiv Dev - Forgotten Empires 3 yr. Lastly, if it’s your first time trying out a game like this or you simply want to breeze through the campaign without much frustration or challenge, choose Story. DE AI is actually much stronger, even though it doesn’t cheat. For definitive edition, is there a table or something out there that show's the differences between the levels of difficulty for the AI 8 6 comments Best Add a Comment Attilat 3 yr.

As the name suggests, the Full Tech Tree option grants all players access to the full technology tree, meaning that all players can train every unit and research. The 'AI' is the standard AI in the Definitive Edition and overall the strongest of the three on the Extreme difficulty level and can play on more different settings. The Full Tech Tree is a game option players can choose before starting a game in both Age of Empires and Age of Empires II.
Players who are masters of the RTS genre and know AoE like the back of their hand, choose Hard. All Tech option in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. If you want to progress in the game with a slight challenge, choose Easy. If you have played AoE 1, 2, 3 or all of them, choose Intermediate. The enemies reach higher ages faster, collect resources faster and have better attack tactics that will test your limits.īased on your previous experience of Age of Empires games or even real-time strategy genre in general, you can pick the challenge you want. You need to be one step ahead of the enemy to win and that’s where the whole challenge will intensify. Any mistake you make or any weakness you show will be exploited. Learn to beat the new moderate AI, then HD moderate ( ( is a bit stronger and more aggressive than the DE one at the moment)) and finally Hard and beyond. The enemy AI goes on war footing and is pretty ruthless. Standard AI, be it HD or the new DE one, isnt that much of a challenge, but ok for some practice. Hard mode – This mode will test all your skills in the RTS genre. For fun one evening, I loaded up an 8 player custom game with easy AI, 2 players per team. If you want to know how the devs want you to play, this is it. The general Age of Empires formula is that enemy AI will attack relentlessly the player with the highest score. Intermediate mode – This gives players a strategic challenge where the enemy AI is much more relentless and attacks simultaneously. They will mount single attacks and the damage will be more. Easy mode – A notch up from the story mode, this setting will provide a higher challenge because the enemy will probe your defenses. So, the attacks will be lighter and the enemy won’t be a huge danger to you. In the Definitive Edition, which completely overhauls the venerable real-time strategy game, updating its graphics, sounds, and AI, Isgreen says that 'the AI actually has to scout now. Story mode – In this setting, you can experience history through the game without having a challenge. So I'm very interested to see how Age of Empires II Definitive Edition holds up. 3) Im 100 certain your so called 'right away' is like 20+ minute game time. 2) Standard AI doesnt make a 'full size' army, its just that you doent have an army. On top of that, there's more of everything. Originally posted by Ailaf Dzekov: 1) Easiest AI does make army, its just that you killed him before he made an army. From what I remember the sequel would improve on basically everything, and I do mean everything, this game had to offer.
When I played Age of Empires back in the day these things already frustrated me, fastforward to 2019 and it's unforgivable.
In a world where units are constantly stuck behind something, either the environment or behind other units, a world where AI opponents have unlimited resources (campaign), a world where one or two catapults can take out a group of horses, a world where the AI can spam so many units everywhere that every game feels like your ship is sinking and all you have is a bucket.
You might remember it fondly but memory is strange like that.

A few quality of life changes aside this is the same game as the original and the HD update a few years ago.
I'm not going to compare it to other games release around that time nor am I going to say it was a trendsetter in it's time. I do avoid booming with the AI as it will have early agression. Its better having 10 units than having 5 units upgraded by 10. Having +10 HP on one unit wont really do much differences. In short, Age of Empires (definitive or not) is not a good game. When i first started, i only took upgrades and such, but having extra troops and resources really does wonder in Age 2.
